Blog Post 13 Via Rail Bombing Apprehended

The recent attack on the VIA rail in Canada really upsets me in knowing all around this world there are these fundamental extremist who plan to carry out these ruthless plans to destroy western society. We as Canadians feel very safe living here in this country and these recent event just opens my eyes that we are not un touchable by these terror incidents. This attack was thankfully known by the RCMP who successfully apprehended the men responsible for these "al-Qaeda-inspired" attacks. I do not think there will be many of these attacks in the year to come because these men who were planning to bomb this via rail had no training once so ever so they were not a big threat to begin with because our government had suspicions for years about them and had tracked them to the very rail they were planning to blow up. Canada has not started any war with these terrorist like the states has so this just puts in my mind although we are not untouchable by these threats, we are less prone to them then most places in this world.

Blog 12: What long term impact will the terror attacks at the Boston Marathon have on western civilization?

The Boston Marathon attack has not only opened the eyes of us as canadians but opened the eyes of the states since the last terror attack of 911 which crippled the country. This attack will not make us as a country an less of a strong nation yet making us stronger to learn from the mistakes we have made . More security measures will be introduced to these events with keeping a better eye on supposed terrorists. An example of this would be in recent news the planned bombing of a Canadian train heading to New York. My deepest sympathy and regards go out to the loved ones families have lost with this bombing. You know what they say "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me", and it hopefully won't happen a second time with the help from security and western governments.

Blog Post #9: The Sexualization of Mainstream Society -- Is it a problem?

This topic of sexulization is how to main stream society uses trends that matters on  how trashy you look is the amount people will look at you. An example of this would be trends throughout schools, the way you are seen is the way you are treated thus making school challenging for most adolescence because of bullying and stereotypes. As the way stars are seen as, it could be argued younger kids look up to celebrities with many problems in there life like drug abuse and sex they forget who there real role models are like parents, friends ex... I feel that it is a problem because its introducing this narrow thought of feminine beauty, be it through the media, or magazines kids can never get away from this stereotypical society.

Blog # 8: Poverty

Poverty is a huge problem in this world it is affecting more then half the people alive today. Developing countries are in the worst spot to get hit by poverty due to a lower standard of living like in africa which in Canada would have a much higher standard of living. I feel these bigger countries like America and Canada should be helping these developing countries deal with this on going struggle that won't stop in my lifetime. There can be start up money given to these countries to help them out with this poverty . Aa well as money given to the government to introduce proper water systems, education systems, and road ways to get from point A to B safely etc...

blog #10 North Korea: What would you do if you were President Obama?

Attacking North Korea would not be the best action plan from Obama for many reasons. If there are any standereds of peace between each of these countries Obamas only option is to negotiate to not upset the neighboring countries like china for example. Especially if North Korea is making these threats but has no attention to fallow through with them, that would look like a major screw up on the Americans side. By taking the lead in a peaceful negation Obama is opening his chances for a better look on America helping fuel peace methods instead of war methods. Self defense is different from a first strike to North Korea so I do agree with America protecting its people if feeling that there lives are in danger. If the negotiation is worked out tis way there will be less casualties with being

blog #11 US Drone Strikes: What's the big deal? Good idea or bad? Why?

Although these US drone attacks kill and are very deadly they do help with keeping troops alive because of these drones being un manned and run by a computer. But what is not seen by the reporters is the civilian casualties in Pakistan attacks because of this un manned drone. These drone attacks seem to not be as precise in over populated areas because it is a plane flying over a zone where the bombs dropped are not as accurate as everyone thinks. All of these facts are reasons why Americas are loosing there so called image everyone talks of, the US thinks of these drones as an advantage yet other countries find it a low blow because anyone can make these drones but not everyone decides to use them for obvious purposes. Therfore I don’t think drones are a good idea due to innocent people loosing lives for a war they don’t even want to be apart of.

Blog #7: Israeli Settlement building

I disagree with Israelis decision to resume the settlement building in the E1 zone because they are pushing their limits with Iran who clearly has more power over them then they see. Israel has continually states they need support to fend of Iran and the Palestine's but this building plan is creating tension between the two. They are building on land that has been off limits in the past because it would damage a future Palestinian state which is the reason behind increased tension on this issue. Many countries including the U.S have stated how they do not agree with Israelis decision to do this, which could mean a loss of support from the one ally that they may need the most. In conclusion I disagree with the continuation of the settlement building and Isreal should stick to the green line brought up years back to stop further outbreaks with Israel and Palestine.

Blog #6: Connecticut School Shooting

The sad thing is there has been precedence for incidents such as this before it feels like this incident shed some light on the horrendous gun laws that cover America’s society which helps with the plagued problem of un needed violence and deaths spreading throughout the western countries. The availability of guns in the U.S has become a huge problem, it seems that America as a whole abuse the right to bare arms, instead of protection there are gangs and insane people helping increase street and in school shooting while giving the kids the wrong message about drugs. The availability of these weapons is made to easy to get for some people who shouldn’t be allowed to own these guns for various reasons, this is becoming a society who overuses and creates a crutch on society with the deathpole increasing each day because of gun violence. Why cant one generation be the generation which doesn’t need a crutch to stand.

Blog #5: World Issues Conference

This being one of the first conferences taking place I felt the outcome was successful. I found that in each group of students the outcome to the same presentation changed sometimes with little difference to other times with major difference. Some groups were extremely involved with the presentation which helped with great group discussions, were as with other groups revolved around being super shy and relied to much on the group leaders talking skills. Overall this conference was good and with a few adjustments of groups and a bit more organization there is success glimmering in the near future if these presentations were still to happen.
